Since 1854, Central Church has been a gospel witness to our surrounding community. Engaging worship, Bible-based teaching, quality Kids and Student programs, and local and global missions outreach have been our priorities. We invite you to learn more about who we are and what we believe! We hope that you will consider joining us on an upcoming Sunday!
Our vision statement was developed and added to our church constitution in 2017 after much discussion and prayer. This vision guides us as we set priorities and make decisions as a church, as we sense where God is calling us to join Him in his work locally and globally.
At Central, we strive to be a multiethnic, multigenerational community in which men and women of all educational backgrounds, socioeconomic status, and stage of life can feel at home. While there are many facets that make us diverse, it is our ethnic diversity that we intentionally cultivate, believing that this distinctiveness enables us to be an effective witness in our community.
To be a diverse congregation that functions as a loving, caring, unified body, we believe that we must learn about our ethnic differences, lament the hurt and pain that specific racial groups experience, and develop relationships with each other that extend beyond our Sunday morning gatherings. Our periodic Ethnic Heritage dinners are one example of how we intentionally learn about and celebrate the ethnic diversity in our church.
We believe that God invites us to join Him in His work in our world. This means that we will pursue people outside of our church walls, even outside of our comfort zone, to make Him known rather than waiting for people to walk through our doors. At Central you’ll find that we have many opportunities to serve our local community by hosting events and partnering with other location organizations such as Urban Promise and Restoring Hearts Ministries. Additionally, we support several missionaries that serve full time around the globe to reach others with the life changing message of Jesus. We also believe that God calls us to follow Him into digital spaces to share the hope of the gospel with unchurched people in our region through social media and YouTube. Lastly, we believe that God also calls us to follow Him as we address difficult cultural topics, providing a biblical perspective and truth even if it may be uncomfortable and unpopular.
Our vision is to bring hope to hurting people who need to hear about God’s love for them. Whether it be mental or physical health struggles, relational conflict, financial strain, grief, loneliness or addiction, life can be tough. Our ministries of prayer and care, along with our support Life Groups, are key ways that we show love and walk beside people who are hurting.
We believe that the ultimate true Hope for hurting people is found in the person of Jesus Christ. God sent His son Jesus to live in a world filled with hurting people, teaching them about God and demonstrating His power through many miracles. Jesus was put to death by crucifixion, but rose from the dead on the third day. His death paid the debt of sin that had severed our relationship with a holy God. Through belief in the risen Jesus, our sins are forgiven, and we begin a personal relationship with God for all eternity! (John 3:16) This life changing message of hope needs to be shared!
We put Jesus first. The life-changing message of Jesus Christ is first in our lives, message, and mission. Individually and corporately, Jesus is the focus of our attention, affection, and worship. We seek to glorify Him in all we do.
We love all people. We are committed to worshipping, celebrating, and experiencing life together as a diverse community. We desire to reflect the Kingdom as we gather as every nation, tribe, people, and language.
We give grace because we’ve been given grace. All of us are imperfect and need the ongoing grace of God in our lives. Whether far from Jesus or close to Him, we are committed to extending grace as we grow together in Christ.
We pursue neighboring. People matter to Jesus and they matter to us. We graciously welcome people into our lives and community. God intentionally placed us where we are, so we engage those around us with purpose.
We are joyfully generous. Jesus has given us much, so we freely give much. Our response to His grace is a life of abundant generosity. We choose to be generous with our finances, time, and energy.
